ICCCM, chapter 4.3, mandates that the window manager aquires ownership of the WM_Sn selection for each screen it is managing.
Via this the --replace flag that some window managers support is implemented. The new window manager steals the WM_Sn selection which makes the old one exit gracefully.

It would be nice if awesome supported --replace, so I guess we need the WM_Sn selection. :)

Uli, would you mind keeping it open?
I even might fix it one day. Lazyness is not a good reason to close. ;)

I can't reopen this:

Query {UPDATE `flyspray_tasks` SET resolution_reason = 0, closure_comment = '', date_closed = 0, last_edited_time = ?, last_edited_by = ?, is_closed = 0, percent_complete = ? WHERE task_id = ?} with params {1281983432,289,,782} Failed! (Column 'percent_complete' cannot be null)

For reference, the WM_Sn selection seems to be new in ICCCM 2.0.

a trivial side effect: the lack of this breaks the 'check if wm is ready' check in the startup routine of xfce4-panel.
